This is a widely used, fundamental type of grinding tool. In contrast to white fused alumina (alumina) grinding wheels, silicon carbide grinding wheels are another major pillar of the abrasive "family."
Traditional silicon carbide grinding wheels refer to bonded abrasive grains together using silicon carbide as the abrasive, achieved through a traditional ceramic binder process of batching, mixing, molding, and high-temperature sintering, resulting in a fixed-shape abrasive wheel.
It is commonly referred to as a "GC wheel" (green silicon carbide) or a "C wheel" (black silicon carbide), and is one of the most basic and classic products in the grinding industry.

Due to its "optimal for grinding hard materials but weak tensile strength" characteristic, its main applications are very clear:
1. Grinding and sharpening of carbide cutting tools: This is the most classic and primary application of green silicon carbide grinding wheels. It can effectively grind tungsten carbide cutting tips without clogging as quickly as corundum wheels.
2. Machining of non-ferrous metals: Used for grinding soft metals such as copper, aluminum, and Babbitt metal. Because these materials are soft and tough, corundum wheels easily clog, while the sharpness and self-sharpening properties of silicon carbide effectively avoid this problem.
3. Rough grinding of cast iron: The graphite flakes in cast iron can disrupt the grinding process, and cast iron itself is a brittle material, making silicon carbide wheels suitable for rough grinding.
4. Machining of non-metallic materials:
Glass and ceramics: Edge grinding, chamfering, and shaping.
Stone and concrete: Cutting and polishing.
Semiconductor materials: Such as grinding silicon wafers.
5. Honing and ultra-precision machining: made into an oilstone for finishing cylinders and valve bodies.
